John “Red” Kelly was born in 1820 in Tipperary, Ireland and was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1841 for stealing pigs. He married Ellen Quinn (born 1832 In Co. Antrim, Ireland) in 1850 at St Francis Church in Melbourne.
They had eight children - Edward born June 1854, Maggie born 1857,James born 1859, Daniel born 1861, Kate born 1863,Grace born 1865, Mary born 1869 and Norah born 1872.

“Red” died in 1866.

Mary McCluskey, daughter of Pat McCluskey and Ellen McKinley, and a sister of Helen (McCluskey) Broderick was the mother of Ellen Quinn.
She was married in County Antrim, Ireland to James Quinn.
